Harvard ex-president Summers Steps Down from AI Company's Directors

One-time economic leader Lawrence Summers is exiting the board at the artificial intelligence firm, just a week after a series of digital correspondence between him and notorious criminal the disgraced billionaire became publicly available.

Summers remarked in a statement that he was "grateful for the opportunity to have served, enthusiastic about the potential of the enterprise, and look forward following their advancement".

The former Harvard president, who once presided over the prestigious university, announced on earlier this week that he would be stepping back from public roles due to his connections with Jeffrey Epstein.

The recently released messages showed that the economist corresponded with the financier until the eve of his 2019 detention for suspected sex trafficking of minors.

In a separate statement, the technology organization expressed it accepted the economist's decision to resign.

Congressional Action

This news comes after the entire Congress of the legislative branch decided on recently to pass a measure that would require the Department of Justice to disclose its documents on Jeffrey Epstein.

The measure will afterward move to the desk of President Trump for signature. Trump has stated he expects to endorse the legislation, after reversing his stance on the issue following pressure from his followers.
