Over a fortnight following the shocking loss of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the pair.
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he just recently felt prepared to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can finally articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the production, remarking that he could not remember "any day without mirth".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He finished with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
In a different essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he grasped the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese added.
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to bar the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive put a security hold on the files to restrict the public release of "all case details, notes, reports or photos" associated with the active case.
The coroner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a record citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
In the wake of the deaths, public figures shared varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making provocative remarks that were broadly criticized by several individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the critics last week. Speaking on his program, Rogan described the comments as "disturbing" and suggested they revealed a worrisome absence of compassion.
Rogan ended by remarking that an associate could have acted when the impulse to speak on the tragedy was made.
