Even absolute newcomers will rapidly be climbing sheltered regional crags on this short session. Attendees will master tying in, belaying and several methods of ascent, as well as abseiling down. The training is open to all individuals over the age of 13 and over, ranging from absolute beginners to those with some gym climbing background. Moclín, a picturesque town in Andalucía, around a short drive from Granada, is the stimulating backdrop for this painting holiday. Participants of all abilities – even novices – will learn how to design and produce non-representational pieces. Some time will be spent outdoors, working on guided exercises out in nature. These initial charcoal drawings and paintings will then be expanded upon in the workspace, with guests completing multiple abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be displayed in the village. Participants has exclusive access of the venue, which is set around an open courtyard and has a rooftop with views over the hills. The price includes five days’ painting tuition; full board; and an outing to the local castle and additional local sights.

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, based at a riverside villa in the central Portuguese region, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. Guests will learn to produce meze spreads, attend a hands-on falafel session, perfect brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses such as spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the village market and a nearby winery to sample local vintages, combined with free time for strolls by the nearby river, to unwind on the deck or take a dip in the infinity pool. Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an energizing, inclusive three-day dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The daily schedule each day is a party-style group warmup, then several hour-and-a-half workshops teaching different urban dance forms, then an 60-minute jam to show off new moves. Dancers are split into groups based on ability and experience, so it is perfect for those who are completely new to street dance, right up to advanced dancers or teachers. This event does not provide accommodation but there are a number of hostels and hotels nearby, and it is under an hour by train into London.

St Ives is the perfect spot for a maritime music retreat. Guests will learn traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. Writer and tutor Greg Mosse runs the regular sessions on this authors' getaway. He covers topics including plot, characters, locations and tension, to submitting work to agents. A co-host, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will co-host events at the start and finish of the retreat. The retreat is based at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the foot of the White mountains – 10 private accommodations surround a garden and pool (companions are welcome to share). The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs on eco-living: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. This two-day course will help attendees understand the basics of beekeeping, study the life cycle of bees and discover their environmental benefits. It is designed to produce “bee-friendly beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to de-stress in the centre's carefully maintained forests, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and rare birds. These recently launched weekend sailing courses are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the estuary in Essex. They are aimed at novice sailors learning the ropes or those with some knowledge who want a skills update. Participants can improve their helming, build their seamanship and aim for the Royal Yachting Association’s certification levels in a fun, welcoming environment. There are day-only and residential options, staying in basic shared rooms in the waterfront training centre.
