Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, Nigerian authorities announced on Wednesday evening. The 36-year-old was involved in a car accident near Lagos on Monday, a horrific crash that took the lives of two of his valued colleagues.
The sports star had been under observation while recuperating from non-critical injuries, representatives had said on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post on X that Joshua was declared medically stable to continue his recovery at home.
“Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two deceased friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the official remarked.
The victims of the crash were named as Latif Ayodele, Joshua's trainer, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. Omotoso added that the athlete was heartbroken and deeply emotional over the passing of his two trusted companions.”
His release from the hospital arrives after the global fight fans had expressed condolences for the champion in the following the heartbreaking incident.
